read only cell
only" and won't allow me to type in the value. I am using MS SQL 2005. Can
anyone please tell me how to turn off the read only property? Thanks.
I figured out that the column identity value is to true. How do I turn it to
false? It won't allow me to do it in SQL Server Management Studio. Thanks.

Hmm, I'm a little concerned.
Generally editing data using SMS isn't that great of an idea.
And turning off an Identity column is also generally a bad idea.
You may want to think about how you're doing whatever you're doing.

READ EXCEL DATA CELL BY CELL FROM SP
I HAVE AN EXCEL SHEET WITH SOME DATA, I WANT TO IMPORT THAT DATA (CELL
BY CELL WITH MANIPULATION) INTO THE SQL SERVER TABLES BY USING STORED
PROCEDURE(IF POSSIBLE).
IF ANYBODY HAVE DONE SIMILER TYPE OF JOB OR KNOWING ABOUT IT, PLS. LET
ME KNOW.
THANKS IN ADV.

spreadsheet you have. Seriously, save your spreadsheet as a CSV and
use Bulk Insert. It's straight forward and can be found on the sql

Louis thanks for your reply.
But this does not seems to solve my problem.
Bulk insert will not be right in this situation, coz. I have to
manipulate data also.
for example. if some record (id) already exist in data, in that case
only updation may require.
If I could read cell by cell data from excel sheet, then only this
level of manipulation is possible.

Probably the easiest approach is to BULK INSERT or DTS the spreadsheet
into a staging table, then do an INSERT into the target table. That
way you can check and clean up the data while it's in the staging
table, and before it goes to the 'real' table.

If you're more comfortable doing arrays/loops, I don't think T-SQL has
it. I would suggest bulk inserting into a temp table. Update
(manipulate it). Identify new records and insert. Identify existing
records and update.

read cell value
I have data like these in the report page:
Item_ID code_ID
xxx1 x1
xxx2 x2
xxx3 x3
xxx4 x3
xxx5 x3
xxx6 x2
I want get summary data like these:
code_ID x1 : 1 (items)
code_ID x2 : 2 (items)
code_ID x3 : 3 (items)
what should I do to get summarized data like that?
I've tried to use "CountDistinct" but the result always 6 that indicate how many of the data.
thank you.
Hi S
Im not sure what it is you want to do with the 'item'
count or sum?
I'm assuming count...
Use a table report and group by code_ID
then use items as your detail field and use
a 'Count()'
If what you want is to count the number of times a
certain code_ID appears you should use count instead of count distinct.
CountDistinct counts the number of unique entries where as count
counts the number of total entries.
I hope that I understood your question correctley
and be sure to tell me if I have not. If i was unclear
just let me know.
