Is it safe to .zip a sql server database backup file. Can
the file be unzipped correctly.You can definitely zip up the backup file. Beware of some software has the
limitation of 4 gig file size however.
In fact this is a good practice to zip up the file if you want to transfer
over the network.

The current production version of Winzip can only zip file
< or = 2Gb. The Beta version of Winzip can zip unlimited

How about winrar? or Pentazip can do it too.
