Read Timeout

Hi Friends,

I have the text file in my server which is 21 MB size.

i want to insert that text file into temporary table and then based on the conditions will insert the original table.
But before inserting all the records in temporary table, i got the below error message but the backend process still running(inserting into temp table)

The following error was encountered:Read Timeout

The system returned:

 [No Error]

A Timeout occurred while waiting to read data from the network. The network or server may be down or congested. Please retry your request.

I am using the following code configuration section

<

sessionStatetimeout="600" />

<

httpRuntime

executionTimeout="110"

maxRequestLength="21504"

requestLengthDiskThreshold="80"

useFullyQualifiedRedirectUrl="false"

minFreeThreads="8"

minLocalRequestFreeThreads="4"

appRequestQueueLimit="5000"

enableKernelOutputCache="true"

enableVersionHeader="true"

requireRootedSaveAsPath="true"

enable="true"

shutdownTimeout="90"

delayNotificationTimeout="5"

waitChangeNotification="0"

maxWaitChangeNotification="0"

enableHeaderChecking="true"

sendCacheControlHeader="true"

apartmentThreading="false" />

How to implement the page keep active while all the records are inserted into DB?

If you are using AJAX, you could add an AJAX Timer to show the progress

Read Only Cursor

I have a sproc that has been running for over 2 years. We then alter a tabl
e structure
increasince the size of 3 fields, and correspondingly alter an Insert statem
ent for this
table. Now an 'update tablename where current of mycur' much later in the c
ode, issues an error of
'The cursor is Read Only' and fails.
The cursor syntax were :
SELECT ld_employee_no,
adjusted_hours
FROM Labrdet
WHERE ld_employee_no = @.dIFf_cur_empno
AND ld_prod_id + ld_prod_category + ld_prod_activity <> '02263'
ORDER BY ld_employee_no, adjusted_hours desc
I changed last line to the following and it works.
SELECT ld_employee_no,
adjusted_hours
FROM Labrdet
WHERE ld_employee_no = @.dIFf_cur_empno
AND ld_prod_id + ld_prod_category + ld_prod_activity <> '02263'
FOR UPDATE OF adjusted_hours
Does anyone have any idea, or should I post more info? We'd really like to
know
why the DDL change and the Insert change would affect a cursor update.
TIA,
Marc MillerWithout seeing the full repro I'm guessing that you changed something
that caused an implicit conversion to a static cursor. Always specify
cursor options explicitly to avoid this.
Could you explain why you are using a cursor at all? Again just
guessing by your code fragment this looks very like a straight data mod
that ought to be possible in an UPDATE with no cursor at all. If this
is a 2 year code legacy then maybe now would be a good time to review
and replace it.

I have a table of salaried employee time entires. Reporting requires,
however, that I only
show 40 hours per employee, even though they report overtime hours. Their
time is reported
in quarter hours increments and I need to loop and decrement/increment the
line items by the amount of
the overtime until I can best adjust each line 'evenly' (sort of an
allocation type basis.) to a total of 40 hours
for each person.
I have no idea in the world how I would use an UPDATE to accomplish this.
Thanks,
Marc Miller

If that's just a reporting requirement why do you need to update the
table? Wouldn't it suffice to put the calc in a SELECT statement?

If you want help with that please post DDL, sample data and required
results as described here:

Re: Why did the adp file shrink?

Good Morning to all,
I like to find out why the adp file size reduced drastically after moving from SQL Server 7.0 to SQL Server 2000. It was 17000 kb but now is only 2500 kb. I would appreciate if anyone has an explanation for this. Thanks!What adp file? Are you talking about Access or MDF (SQL)?|||Thanks for your reply.

We have recently updated from SQL Server 7.0 to SQL Server 2000. I re-created Access FE(adp file) base on the SQL Server 2000 as the BE. Now the Access file size only 2500 kb but the Access FE for SQL Server 7.0 is 17000 kb. Would you have an explanation for this?

Thanks!|||I am pretty sure the file will grow and may possibly reach 17MB shortly. Many operations within Access result in data coming from your backend to be temporarily stored locally in adp, which forces it to grow. If adp sits on a share and is used by more than 1 user then intensity of connections also affects its size.|||Hi,
Again, thanks for your reply.

You said the file will grow. Are you saying once the database is actively in use the file will grow? I created db last week and file size was 35MB and still has not grown.
Thanks an explanation.|||In the previous post you said that the new file size is 2.5MB...I am confused...|||Hi ,

When I created the new FE last Monday it was 3.5MB when I checked the same adp file today is showing 2.5MB. This Access file was not being used til last Thursday and only by one user. This user does make changes to two tables. Could you explain this strange behavior?

Thanks!|||:) Thanks for your explanation, Rdjabarov.
The file size has gotten larger.
Thanks!|||Hi rdjabarov,

You mentioned MDF (SQL) previously. Could you explain what that is?
Thanks much!|||i'm gonna step in for robert(dont tell him)
the default datafile file extension for Ms Access is the MDB file it contains forms reports tables queries macros modules etc..

the default data file for SQL Server is MDF it contains tables and indexes.
all of the definitions of the objects that exist within a sql server database (stored procedures, Views, Functions, Triggers, constraints, etc...) are contained within system tables in each database and in the master and msdb database.

Books Online {Physical Database Files and Filegroups}|||i'm gonna step in for robert(dont tell him)Why are you ignoring me? I asked you if you were going to this "get-together-for-local-wannabe-dbas" and you didn't say a word!..And she asked me, not you!|||Why are you ignoring me? i knew i could get your attention
i didnt see the "get together" post sorry i will try to stay sharper.|||Well, about time!!!!|||"oooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh I hate that rabbit!!!" :D
